Vedanti | Classical Dancer | Hindu College | Batch of 2023

Updated: Jul 26, 2022

Q. Give us a brief introduction about yourself.

Ans. My name is Vedanti, and I hail from Uttarakhand. I am pursuing Political Science Honours from Hindu college. I was born and brought up in Nainital and then shifted to Haldwani for my further studies. Nainital was the place where my dance journey began at the age of four.

Q. You have a great record of scholarships. So, how did you feel when you received your first one?

Ans. When I received my first national scholarship from CCRT, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, I was quite young. So, I couldn't really understand its importance. I do recall my mother telling me that "you are now the heritage of the nation and, this is what you need to prove".

Q. Dance is an activity that commands time, so how do you juggle between your studies and dancing?

Ans. Dance is like oxygen for me and, not once have I treated it as a burden in all of my journey so far. I believe that once you give that level of status to any manoeuvre, it will ultimately teach you more, centre you, give you the level of dedication and hard work needed and help you in your academics as well.

Q. What role did your family play in your success story?

Ans. My family held me up to the place I am today. They were the ones who built me up as a dancer. The greatest support I found was from my father, who took to the task of taking me everywhere needed, for my growth and development as a dancer. At the same time, my mother has played a crucial role in providing me with both the qualities of a mother and guru herself. I am what I am today because of my parents and grandparents.

Q. Who is your role model?

AnsAns. My role model is my mother. She is my guru from whom I have learned everything. For as long as I can remember, I've seen her being perfect in everything she does and every role she plays. Be it as a mother, a guru, a student, or a daughter, she inspires me to be like her. When people describe her struggles while she was learning Kathak, I get goosebumps, how can a student be so dedicated and driven?

Q. At such a young age, you have already hosted a workshop of your own. How did it make you feel?

Ans. It was such an amazing experience. It was seeing myself there, where I had placed myself on my own, that contents me. Also, the enthusiasm and zest of the kids are unforgettable.

Q. In the upcoming five years, where do you see yourself?

Ans. I'm planning to get in a position where I can propagate dance in its authentic form and develop it in a sense where it's not only taken as a performing art but also as an essence of our culture.

Q. What kind of exposure did you get, given that you are in such a reputed college of the University of Delhi?

Ans. I was and am still being exposed to the opportunities to advance and improve my capabilities, thanks to Hindu College. The support that I have received from Hindu college, not only in terms of academics but also for my other activities has been immense. Getting into Hindu college is something that I have always dreamed of.

Q. What advice would you like to give to your juniors?

Ans. My advice would be to invest in yourself, i.e. develop your inner essence, invest in your dream, and head towards your goal irrespective of the failures and hindrances that come in your way. Just remember to keep moving and that is what it's all about.
