Tanya | National Level Shooting Player | Maitreyi College | Batch of 2023

Q1. Tell us something about yourself.

Ans. My name is Tanya, I am from Lucknow and currently, I am pursuing a BA program in economics and math. I am in my 3rd year right now. I started shooting as a hobby when I merely completed my tenth but eventually, I loved it and played at the state and as well as the national level.

Q2. How did you manage your academics along with shooting?

Ans. I had PCM in my 12th standard. So it was very difficult for me to manage at first. Initially, I used to miss my unit tests for my shooting matches but later I learned to balance both things out. Now, I practice for at least 4 hours per day. Even now I am having my national match along with the 3rd year semester ending exams and I am all ready to manage both.

Q3. How do you cope with failure even after giving your full efforts?

Ans. I came to Faridabad from Lucknow as I was not getting the desired results so I decided to change my coach for that I moved and it was 2 months before my nationals. At that time I used to train 6 hours a day, 3 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the evening. Even after trying so much I felt pressured at the last moment and didn't perform well so I was quite disheartened. At that time my mother told me to give my 100% and not wait for the results because I will get them at the right time. My mother always told me that hardwork and efforts is in our hands. We must try to put in 100 % and focus on efforts rather than fretting about what will happen, whatever is destined to happen will happen

Q4. Do you see yourself making a career out of shooting in the future? Why didn't you go for an open-school degree to be more focused on shooting?

Ans. Well. I am not seeing myself making a career out of it and see it as my main source of income but it is a good hobby of mine and I feel time will tell. Shooting itself is a very expensive sport, my weapon costs me around 1.5 lakhs, plus the coach's fees so I feel there is a financial backlog from my family but my family has supported me a lot no matter what, especially my dad.

Q5. What is your favorite memory regarding shooting? And who is your role model in real life or shooting?

Ans. So in Lucknow, I used to practice at a very small range and when I came to Faridabad I remember the time when I got to practice with international players. It is one of my favorite memories regarding shooting and it is something that I can never forget. Talking about my inspirations when it comes to shooting I look up to my coach and for life, my only and only inspiration is my mother.

Q6. What is your motivation to start shooting? And what message do you want to give to the people reading this?

Ans. In class 10, we had a shooting period once a week and I used to love that. I used to tell my father about my love for shooting so he asked me to wait till my boards' ended and then I started practicing at a range near my home daily. At that time I never imagined I would come this far. I would like to say to people reading this that you should do what your heart enjoys no matter what anyone else says.
