Sumitra Manda|Content Writer|Gargi College|Batch of 2024

Question 1: Kindly brief us about yourself

Answer:  Hello my name is Sumitra Manda and I am currently pursuing History honors from Gargi College. I am in my final year right now. I'm quite passionate about stage talks and content writing. I co-authored “Gargi ki Zubani” and I'm also a published writer at Kitab Writing Publication. Along with that, I'm into LinkedIn ghostwriting and personal branding. I hold an offer from Deloitte and Josh Talks for an internship. Besides all this, I run my own YouTube channel where I share my experiences about college life, content writing, and navigating Linkedin. I also got an invitation to a podcast with Howse of Y and got invited by one of the societies of OP Jindal Global University as a guest speaker.

Question 2: Can you tell us a bit about your journey as a writer and how did you start in the field of content creation?

Answer: On being advised to do internships, I started exploring in my first year and then I realized I'm more into content writing. I started writing as an intern and gradually developed an interest in it. My interest in writing was piqued because when I used to write, it felt therapeutic and I was quite mesmerized by how much power a word can hold. Thus I became more invested in writing.

Question 3: How did you get involved in co-authoring  “Gargi ki Zubani” and what was that experience like?

Answer: In my first year I joined a college society called “Anubhuti Gargi” and I started writing a few pieces for it. In my fourth semester, the Editor of “Gargi ki Zubani” told me to write for them and while doing so I realized I'm more into writing for this than for others. As I became more involved with them it was like a dream come true. After that, I contributed to some departmental magazines of my college.

Question 4: Can you share some insight into ghostwriting for Linkedin and how does it differ from other forms of writing?

Answer: Linkedin ghostwriting is something when we write for others and people don't know who the person is behind this piece. I had to think from their perspective while writing, so I experienced something different while doing so. It was quite challenging at first but later I became habituated so it went more smoothly. It feels like you're a different personality when you write.

Question 5: Collaborating on a book like “Gargi Ki Zubani” must have been a unique experience for you. Can you share some challenges and highlights of your collaboration process?Answer: When I started writing for Gargi ki Zubani, it being an official book I had to be very careful with my words. I used to write a rough draft and then take ideas from it. Having an outline for my work would ease my burden.

Question 6: How did you overcome the challenge of thought clashing while co-authoring?

Answer: It used to happen quite often with us while exchanging our ideas but the best thing about me is that I try to get others' perspectives as well. If our ideas used to be poles apart we sit down and write our ideas and then would come to a conclusion.

Question 7: Being a speaker, how did you prepare for stage talks and how did you engage with the audience?

Answer: I think the most important thing to keep in mind while delivering a speech, is to know your audience. Even though knowing the topic, you have to explain it using examples which helps your audience to understand it in a better way. While delivering speeches in other colleges, I used to give examples of my college life and while delivering in front of professionals I used to relate with my internships and freelancing, so the types of examples you choose also matter a lot.

Question 8: How do you perceive the evolving landscape of content creation?

Answer: These days there is huge competition in content creation. Also, the increasing use of AI tools has changed things drastically. People have become so dependent on AI that they tend to forget the beauty of writing and playing with words. That human touch is somewhere gone missing from people's work. According to me, our work should reflect you and your thoughts and opinions.

Question 9: Do you see yourself having a long-term career in the field of content writing?

Answer: Yes definitely. I would obviously like to explore more on this path and see where it leads me.

Question 10: At last, what advice would you like to give to aspiring writers and content creators?

Answer: One thing that helped me personally grow a lot was being consistent. I have often seen when you get interested in something new, after some time you tend to neglect it and that is not a solution. If you want to grow in any field you have to be consistent. It's okay if it takes time to get the result. Keep working hard and don't stop putting effort and gradually you will get the fruit of your hard work.
