Q1. Please tell us something about yourself.
Ans- I'm Diya Pareek from Maitreyi College. I'm a second-year student pursuing B.Com Honors. I'm a sports enthusiast. For a very long time, I have been playing basketball. I'm into other sports as well. I chose Delhi University for my UG because I feel it's one of the best universities in the country. The faculty here and the quality of education are top-notch, especially for a bachelor's degree.
Ques 2- How did you get into the field of basketball?
Ans- Since I was a child, I used to play basketball in my sports period. Once I grew up and started understanding the game much better I found my calling here. I became very regular with the game. My favourite tournament was the States, where our team won the first prize. We won all the matches because we had worked really hard in our practice sessions.
Ques 3- What is your secret behind managing your academics and sports together in school as well as college?
Ans- I have been playing basketball since I was in the 8th grade and I had always had a knack for all the extracurricular activities. Sports was more of a habit for me. Throughout all these years I make time for both things. My parents and my elder sister have been a source of constant support in my entire journey. In school, things were rather easier as compared to college. In college, I work for other societies as well and I need to devote my time to my studies also. Sometimes it's a little hectic but I feel in the end it's all worth it.
Ques 4- Have you played any matches from college?
Ans- My entire first year passed during the COVID and we couldn’t come to Delhi due to that. Once the colleges began we started routine practices and the team began to be much more active. I played Nationals in Delhi from college. I also played Netball Inter College in which our team secured a Bronze medal and also participated in the Senior State Netball Championship which was a great experience altogether. I am training for football now as well which is a completely new field but I am enjoying it.
Ques 5- What role does your family play in your journey and how have they reacted throughout your choices?
Ans- Whenever you choose a different path from others of course there are various objections and obstacles you face. But my father has been extremely supportive of my sports. He makes sure I don’t miss any practices and I’m punctual. My family has supported me constantly and my sister is my best friend. I can talk to her about anything and everything. The best part is my family never forced anything on me. One of my favourite memories from my childhood has to be when my mom used to take me for practice sessions in the early morning and sit the whole practice session just to make me feel comfortable because I was too shy as a kid.
Ques 6- Please share your achievements.
Ans- I have represented Delhi in Senior Cestoball Nationals. I have played basketball for Rajasthan as well as the Jharkhand team. We got a Gold medal while playing from Jharkhand and 3rd position while representing Rajasthan at the state level. There used to be a lot of inter-school tournaments during my day and they used to be massive. I have participated in almost all of them. The credit for all my achievements goes to my family and my coach. They all have been the pillars of strength for me.
Ques 7- Apart from sports and academics, what else have you been doing lately?
Ans- I'm a recognised speaker at MUN. I started with this in 10th grade. I also participated in IMUN which is an international forum. I enjoyed being in the company of people from around the world and learning about their various experiences. In 12th standard, I was a recognised speaker at IMUN at the international level. I've also done four internships in various domains of finance, HR etc along with college which has been a great exposure to the corporate world for me.
